Midcoast Youth Hockey Association was thrilled to host a successful food drive for Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program on Saturday, March 2nd.  Midcoast Hunger Prevention (www.mchpp.org) serves hundreds of children and families in the Midcoast area, including many towns where Midcoast Hockey’s players live - including Brunswick, Topsham, Harpswell, Durham, Bowdoin, and Bowdoinham, among others.

It was a busy Sunday at Bowdoin’s Watson Arena as hundreds of skaters and their families arrived bearing peanut butter, canned fruit, and breakfast cereal - items they learned the MCHPP is always grateful to receive.  8 year old hockey player and Brunswick resident Maggie Bateman said about the table in the lobby, “ I am glad we are doing something to help other kids, and we’ve already collected a lot of food for only 8:30 in the morning!”

President of Midcoast Youth Hockey Association, Bill Patterson, commented that, “"I was amazed to see how excited these kids were to give.  Each week we go about our own routine at the hockey rink and this is an important way to raise awareness among these kids about the need that exists in our community every day.  We hope to make this a regular part of our program in the future"

Midcoast’s hockey players filled 6 giant hockey bags with food, totaling 352 lbs. - it took 5 bags, plus a goalie bag, along with a few strong Mites and Squirts to get everything over to Midcoast Hunger Prevention.  Midcoast Hunger Prevention is always looking for non-perishable items, especially peanut butter, canned fruit, and cereal, and always has volunteer opportunities for kids and adults.

Nice work Midcoast Hockey skaters and families!
